We’ve established that, on a basic level, the time it takes to transfer your file depends on the proximity of both sender and recipient. The further away your recipient is, the longer it takes. For long distance transfers out of Australia, this can be a problem.
This is where Digital Pigeon has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world’s largest cloud services provider, to step in. AWS powers the delivery of services such as Netflix, Adobe, and Spotify to customers in just about every corner of the world.
Using Amazon’s Cloudfront Content Delivery Network (CDN), we speed things up by giving your file a “stop-over” on the way to it’s final destination.
The CDN is a global system, powered by an international network of data centres called ‘Edge Locations’. It turbo-charges your overseas file transfers by allowing you to choose a “stop-over” Edge Location that works best for you - depending on where you want to send your content!
So, how exactly do you send a file via CDN?
Here’s how it works.
- You send a large file from Australia to your client in New York.
- You choose the most efficient Edge Location for your transfer.
- Your file is transferred directly to the Edge Location.
- Your client accesses your file directly from the Edge Location.
- CDN stores a copy of your file at the Edge Location, ready to be accessed again at any time.
Now, whenever anyone in your client’s office needs to access the file, they do not have to go through the laborious process of retrieving it from Australia every time. Instead, they can quickly and easily access the local copies stored at the Edge Location.
